Denmark's leading producer of sweets and chocolate, Toms, is optimizing a larger production apparatus. Before spending large sums on a new process line, it is important to ensure that the design meets all requirements and needs. Therefore, the Toms facility has been a trip into virtual reality.
Kirkholm has brought a 3D model of the new process line to life in virtual reality. At a workshop at Toms, the sweets and chocolate manufacturer's technicians and operators could experience the virtual plant in size one to one. With the VR glasses on, you get a realistic feel for the design. You can, for example, reach for a box or check what the lifting height is. In this way, you can better relate to how the plant actually looks and works - and whether it makes sense.
After Toms' employees had experienced the production facility in VR, they were able to review drawings, discuss details and adjust the design with a common understanding of the design.
Senior Project Manager Frederik Schnoor Caspersen experiences that there are advantages to using VR technology.
- What gave the greatest value by using virtual reality for the design review was that the plant was made tangible. Operators, technicians and the project team gained a completely different inclusive insight into the facility, and we received feedback that we probably would not have received without virtual reality, he explains.
