With mechanical engineering as our core business, we are present in a large number of industries. No matter the industry, we have a solid foundation of experience and knowledge, which we have gathered through our many previous projects.
FOOD INDUSTRY
From butter and cheese to fish and candy - we have many years of experience with projects and tasks within the food industry, and we know that efficiency and hygiene are key words. Companies like Cabinplant, GEA and Toms are some of our customers in the industry. We have used various competencies in the food industry for:
- Optimization of production facilities and equipment
- New development of multi-batches for e.g. fish and vegetables

WIND TURBINE INDUSTRY
In the wind turbine industry, our customers are some of the biggest players in the market. For many years we have performed tasks within design, construction and handling of wind turbine equipment. We have solved tasks such as:

MACHINERY & PRODUCTION
The machine industry is one of the largest sub-industries in Denmark and includes a large number of companies that manufacture production machines, automation and process plants or equipment for machines. There are high demands for efficiency and innovation, while the machines must comply with various standards such as Eurocode, ISO and Danish Standard. Kirkholm has i.a. experience with:
- Lifting and handling equipment such as cranes and conveyor belts
- Cooling and ventilation systems
- Agricultural machines and equipment - e.g. new development of a hose reel for slurry laying
- Machine tools

BIG SCIENCE
The world's largest high-tech research facilities such as CERN and the European Southern Observatory (ESO) place high demands on its suppliers. Kirkholm is one of them. When we develop equipment for the research organizations, we use the same knowledge and the same techniques that we use in our more traditional tasks. The most important thing is that the quality is top notch and that all factors are taken into account. However, there may be extreme challenges that need to be taken into account - at CERN, for example, it is radioactive radiation and temperatures of minus 250 degrees Celsius.
Among other things, we have had projects concerning:
- Concept development, construction and test of adjustment mechanism for CERN used on the particle accelerator HIE-ISOLDE
- CFD calculations for European Extremely Large Telescope, which is being built in the Atacama desert in Chile and will be Earth's largest telescope.
- Carbon fiber test equipment for the rocket nozzle of the European launcher Ariane 6

MEDICAL AND HEALTH INDUSTRY
In the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, we have worked with several customers. It is among other customers who develop hospital equipment or products that can make life for patients or inform about diseases. Here, the focus is on both technology, dissemination and comfort.
We have worked with various tasks such as:

DEFENCE INDUSTRY
Over the years, Kirkholm has solved a number of technical tasks within the defence industry. Our customers include Terma and The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO). Common to companies in the industry is that high demands are placed on safety.
Within the defense industry, we have handled projects concerning:
- Development of new and advanced radar antenna - including design and CFD calculations
- Construction of sonar suspension for Search And Rescue boat
- FEA - calculations and analysis

POWER-TO-X
Power-to-X (PtX) or electrofuels (e-fuels) encompasses a range of technologies, all of which are based on the utilization of electricity to produce e.g. hydrogen. Kirkholm has extensive experience in solving diverse mechanical design and structural analysis within this industry. We have particularly focused on pressurized equipment and calculations of pressure vessels, flanges, and bolted connections, always considering and evaluating all aspects of the innovative equipment. Especially on the PtX tanks, there are often large internal loads from equipment that we need to consider. When working with pressurized equipment, pressure vessels, and similar, we pay close attention to the following:
- Ensuring compliance with standards like the EN13445 and ASME – just to mention a few.
- Structure simulations of transport and production loads via Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Precise and reliable calculations

AQUACULTURE - LAND BASED FISH FARMING
At Kirkholm, we have extensive experience in optimizing advanced water treatment technology and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). Through calculations and analyses, particularly CFD simulations, we have assisted several clients in optimizing their land-based fish farming RAS facilities.
We have made results such as:
· A 20% reduction in material consumption
· Reduced power consumption by up to 50 %
· Assessment of sedimentation risk
