FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF PARTS FOR “THE INTELLIGENT HOSPITAL BED OF THE FUTURE”

Kirkholm has been involved in further developing parts for the "intelligent hospital bed of the future" Opus 5. KR Hospital Equipment is behind the bed in collaboration with, among others, the Central Jutland Region and the Randers Regional Hospital.

SPECIAL ACTION AREAS FOR BOTH STAFF AND PATIENTS

In the development of the intelligent hospital bed, there has been a focus on the staff's working environment, efficiency and safety, as well as the patient's quality of life, security and self-help. Eight years of work has resulted in a patient bed with a number of functions that make everyday life easier for both patients and staff. Work has been done in detail with all parts of the bed to achieve the optimal outcome.

The innovative Opus 5 bed can, among other things, be raised up in a vertical sitting position, so that the patient can step out at the foot end. The bed can also be tilted up to 10 degrees from side to side. This makes it easier for staff to move patients because they use gravity as an aid. Digitally, the bed is prepared for various types of censors and other digital equipment for eg patient monitoring without disturbing the patient, weighing of unconscious patient in connection with medication, etc.

IMPROVEMENT OF STRENGTH AND STABILITY

Kirkholm's task was to improve the bed in different areas. The most important thing was to increase the mobility, strength and stability of the part of the bed that carries the patient's legs. Using mechanism construction, Kirkholm solved these challenges. The general stability of the bed was also improved in close collaboration with KR Hospital Equipment's blacksmiths.

Kirkholm also developed the headboards of the bed so that the natural position of the hands is utilized when the bed is transported by the staff. At the same time, Kirkholm prepared concept proposals for bed rails and support handles. These have functions in connection with the care of the patients and at the same time function as a safety for mental patients. Two sets of bed rails were manufactured in KR Hospital Equipment's forging workshop. The collaboration culminated with a new prototype of Opus 5 with headboards and bed rails, which KR Hospital Equipment could send for testing and subsequently adapt where necessary.
