FULLY AUTOMATIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM

GEA Niro has its Danish headquarters in Søborg and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of technology for drying ingredients for the food and pharmaceutical industry. The collaboration between Kirkholm and GEA Niro dates back to 2002, when GEA Niro contacted Kirkholm for help in developing a new fully automatic transport system for continuous freeze-drying equipment.

About the collaboration between Kirkholm and GEA Niro, project group manager Lars Hamann Pedersen from GEA Niro says:

- In connection with a freeze-drying project to Germany, we needed to further develop and improve our product fully automatic tray transport system. We assessed that the project was so extensive that GEA Niro did not have enough experienced mechanical engineers and designers to solve the task itself. That is why we contacted Kirkholm. Together, we initiated a development project that, in addition to the actual manufacturing documentation, also included idea generation, project management and execution. The process stretched over about eighteen months from idea to finished product. During this period, we got to know Kirkholm as a highly committed, competent and innovative engineering company, he explains.

BREAKTHROUGHING SOLUTION

Kirkholm's work for GEA Niro is something that has provided value that lasts for many years.

- The solution that Kirkholm presented has, among other things, ensured an improvement in technical uptime from a maximum of 90% to a minimum of 97%. An important parameter when the freeze dryers are in operation seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Many of the solutions that were developed at the time were basically groundbreaking and ensured that GEA Niro was subsequently able to supply a large number of similar transport systems for continuous freeze-dryers, says Lars Hamann Pedersen.
