KIRKHOLM IS INVOLVED IN DEVELOPING DANISH RACE CAR

Agile Automotive is Denmark's new car brand. The Danish company has developed the race car SCX, which is built in the at the same time light and strong material carbon fiber.

ON THE SAFE SIDE WITH SIMULATIONS

Kirkholm's role in the development has been to make CFD or computational fluid dynamics calculations of the aerodynamics around the Agile racer. With the CFD simulations, Kirkholm has been able to validate design, clarify potential risks and increase the car's performance.

- It is expensive to produce prototypes - and it is especially expensive when it comes to carbon fiber and cars where molds have to be made. To avoid this, you can use CFD calculations, explains Jacob Mac Rygaard, who has made the simulations on the racer, and continues:

- When the simulation results are analyzed, it is easy and simple to get a completely accurate picture of eg flow currents and surface pressure - in contrast to prototype tests, which often require expensive measuring equipment and are time-consuming. It is therefore ideal to use simulations if you want to improve and optimize your design. The simulations we have made on the car show, among other things, where the wind hits the driver - and this agrees well with later physical tests, explains the CFD expert, who is looking forward to more tasks from Agile Automotive.

DANISH DESIGN AND CARBON FIBER

The name "Agile", which means "agile", is not accidental. The idea is that Agile Automotive's cars are athletic, light and fast. The new Danish car manufacturer has developed the racer SCX and the more civilized roadster SC 122. While the SC 122 has not yet been produced, the SCX racer has become a reality.

It is CEO Bo Ørbjerg and CTO Tim Hansen who have created Agile Automotive with a passion for horsepower - and carbon fiber. Tim Hansen, who is also CEO of the company House of Composites, has extensive know-how about carbon fiber and has experience in producing components for, among other things, Formula 1 and Le Mans cars.

- The basic idea has always been to develop a Danish designed sports car. The unique thing is that our two models are built in carbon fiber, which is a super light and strong material. The SCX racer weighs only 600 kg, while it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4 seconds, says Tim Hansen.

Agile SCX has been developed with inspiration from Lotus Elise, which has good driving characteristics.

- Instead of starting from scratch, we have taken the driving geometry from a car we know works. In the same way, we have chosen to use several standard components - for example, the SCX has a Ford engine, which is used in many race cars, he explains.
